other games, Field hockey also contains penalty cards. Penalty card is
displayed to hockey players who commit any offence in the field. With different
colours and shapes, these penalty cards have their own unique meaning in field

then very first lesson of being a good hockey player is:- try best to not get
any penalty card. There are usually three penalty cards in the field hockey
that are used by the referees. These are:-
Green Card:-
This card is triangular in the shape and shown to the player for the minor offence. It works as a symbol of warning. The second green card for a same player work as a yellow that means suspension for 5 minutes.
Yellow Card:-
The Shape
of the yellow card is rectangular and indicates the temporary suspension of the
player during the game. The temporary suspension of the player is for 5
minutes.
Red Card:-
A Red card is shown for the serious offence and shape of the card is circular. The player will be permanently suspended without substitution. This suspension can be for a limited period of time or for number of matches depending upon the offence.
